Almighty God, of your saving grace you called Mary of Nazareth

to be the mother of your only begotten Son:

Inspire us by the same grace to follow her example of bearing God to the world.

We pray through Jesus Christ  her Son our Savior.  Amen.

The Madonna in Sorrow, by Sassoferrato (1609-1685)

Traditional Latin text; English translation from The Hymnal 1982, of The Episcopal Church

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

1.  At the cross her vigil keeping,

stood the mournful mother weeping,

where he hung, the dying Lord:

there she waited in her anguish,

seeing Christ in torment languish,

in her heart the piercing sword.

2.  With what pain and desolation,

with what grief and resignation,

Mary watched her dying son.

Deep the woe of her affliction,

when she saw the crucifixion

of the sole begotten one.

3.  Him, who saw for our salvation

mocked with cruel acclamation,

scourged, and crowned with thorns entwined;

saw him then from judgment taken,

and in depth by all forsaken,

till his spirit he resigned.

4.  Who, on Christ’s dear mother gazing,

pierced by anguish so amazing,

born of woman, would not weep?

Who, on Christ’s dear mother thinking,

such a cup of sorrow drinking,

would not share her sorrows  deep?

5.  Jesus, may her deep devotion

stir in me the same emotion,

Fount of love, Redeemer kind;

that my heart fresh ardor gaining,

and a purer love attaining,

may with thee acceptance find.

My preferred post-communion prayer is the Hail Mary.

KRT

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

Blessed are you among women,

and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners now at the honor of our death.

Amen.

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

You learned you were pregnant

Outside of wedlock?

===

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

The anonymous, thronging crowds

Ignored you in your hour of need in Bethlehem?

==

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

You experienced birth pangs,

As well as the stresses of parenthood?

===

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

Your eldest son confused you,

Then seemed to reject you?

===

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

You watched your eldest son die?

===

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

You buried your eldest son?

===

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

You discovered your resurrected son?

===

O Blessed Mother,

How did you feel when

You ascended and became

Queen of Heaven?

===

O Blessed Mother,

Strong and humble,

Faithful and human,

Intercede for us.

Amen.
