John Athelstan Laurie Riley (1858-1945) was an accomplished man.  He, a High Church Anglican, wrote hymns, translated hymns, served on the committee for The English Hymnal (1906), promoted the study of liturgy, and encouraged ecumenical relations with Eastern Orthodox churches.

Soren Damsgaard Rodholm (February 25, 1877-May 11, 1951) was a U.S. Danish Lutheran minister.  He served as a professor then as the Dean of the seminary of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church (extant 1874-1962).  He also served as the President of Grand View College (now University), Des Moines, Iowa.  From 1922 to 1926 we was the President of his denomination.  He also wrote and translated hymns.

Baron Christian Knorr von Rosenroth (1636-1689) was a linguist and a chemist who served as Prime Minister under Palsgrave Christian August of Sulzbach.  The Baron also wrote seventy hymns.

George Alfred Taylor Rygh (1860-1942) was a U.S. Norwegian Lutheran pastor who alternated between serving in parishes and teaching.  Many of his translations appeared in The Lutheran Hymnary (1913).
