Richard Mant (1776-1848),  ordained an Anglican priest in 1802, Mant became Bishop of Killaloe and Kilfenoragh before moving to the see of Down and Connor three years later.  James Moffatt, in his 1927 Handbook to the Church Hymnary, notes that Bishop Mant published The History of the Church in Ireland in 1840, and that

Many other works came from his unresting pen.

These works included hymns, published mostly in Scripture Narratives (1831) and Ancient Hymns from the Roman Breviary, with Original Hymns (1837).
